The Hon Fran Bailey MP the Australian Tourism Minister and Minister for Small Business visited our Australian Food Promotion at the Hilton Nagoya to sample the unique Australian dishes on offer. Along with Minister Fran Bailey was the Australian Ambassador to Japan, Murray McLean, who were both in Nagoya visiting the Australian Pavilion at World Expo 2005.

During the visit by Minster Fran Bailey, both Vic Cherikoff and I discussed the long term benefits to Aboriginal communities as well as small businesses that the native food industry creates and supports. More and more chefs and restaurants around the world are using Australian native foods in their menus mainly because of their
unique flavour and organic qualities.

We also talked about the enormous benefits to the Australian Tourism industry that our Australian promotions create, with over 50% of our diners, indicating they will visit Australia in the next 6 – 12 months. Australian food promotions by Dining Downunder give diners the opportunity to experience the native flavours of Australia together with paired Australian wines and beers.

Minster Fran Bailey and Australian Ambassador to Japan Murray McLean sampled native Australian ingredients such as riberries, kangaroo, wattleseed and crocodile.
