I had a quick visit on Wednesday to Bos Food in Düsseldorf, who supply Australian native ingredients to fine dining restaurants and hotels across Germany. Ralf Bos gave me a tour of the extensive warehouse full of products from right around the world.
During my visit, an Italian associate of Ralf’s dropped in with a sample of new season white truffles. It was a sneak peek of the quality available for the upcoming season. When the box was opened up, the room filled with the unique aroma of white truffles. White truffles typically fetch about $2000 per kilo becuase they are so rare.
Ralf Bos is one of the world's authorities on truffles and he showed me the secrets of white truffles. While in his office, he showed me Perigord truffles, black winter truffles and Burgundy truffles. Even though this was an experience of a life time I still arent convinced that white truffles or even truffles are reall worth the money they fetch.
