The British Culinary Federation was formed in 2005 with the merger of the Chefs and Cooks Circle and the Midlands Association of Chefs and Cooks. Chefs and Cooks Circle was founded in 1948 and was the oldest chef association in Great Britain. The British Culinary Federation is a member of WACS (World Association of Chefs Societies). The British Culinary Federation is now one of the largest associations in the United Kingdom with membership throughout the country and with members in many other countries. Their main aim is to promote and foster culinary excellence. Toward that aim the organization raises funds and provides scholarships and has established an agreement with Les Toques Lyonnaises to provide British chefs with an opportunity to work in Lyon, France. The British Culinary Federation maintains strong links to the food and food services industries and to culinary schools. They sponsor a number of cooking prizes including the Louis Cippola award for culinary excellence, the Tudor France award, and the Johnnie Boria Memorial Award to a young chef. The website provides information about membership benefits and how to join. It also lists upcoming events, including lectures, demonstrations, restaurants shows, and members’ dinners and meetings around the country. The news section provides news about member chefs, award winners, and updates about the Culinary Olympics Team. Members can purchase chefs whites and other clothing on the website. The competitions website provides information about cooking contests that British Culinary Federation members might wish to enter.
