South African Chefs Association

Category: Chef Associations

The South African Chefs Association (SACA) is the recognized authority on food in South Africa. There are five branches throughout the country and 3000 members including caterers, restaurateurs, chefs, apprentices, and others in the hospitality industry. Product development and industry standards are a large part of their work. The South African Chefs Association is also interested in promotion and encouragement to young culinary students and would-be chefs, which it does by holding seminars, workshops, and competitions. The South African Chefs Association chooses a team to compete in the IKA Culinary Olympics, and Team South Africa has won medals at that event. The South African Chefs Association is also a member of WACS (World Association of Chefs Societies), and members of SACA have served as officers in the organization.

South African Chefs Association hosts the Centre for Culinary Excellence, which is an outstanding resource for chefs and others with culinary interests in South Africa. The Centre contains archives of culinary artifacts, a library collection of contemporary cookbooks, photographs, and a Foods of Africa section, among other things. The South African Chefs Association has been partly supported by sponsors from the corporate world. On the website is news from the Association, information about educational standards and qualifications, a link to WACS, a job forum, and other links.
