Thai Chefs Association was originally founded in 1982 when it was called the Executive Chefs Association and only had 35 members. They held their first cooking competition that year in a new hotel in Bangkok. In 1992 the Association changed its name to Thai Chefs Association when it joined WACS (World Association of Chefs Societies).
By 2002, there were over 200 members, mostly Thai nationals. There are chapters in six other places in Thailand. The Thai Chefs Association has sent contestants to culinary competitions around the world and has sponsored a number of them in Thailand. They have also coordinated other educational events, arranged tours to visit food producers, and organized cooking seminars. The Association has established a certification process whereby chefs can become certified and then go to other countries to work in Thai restaurants. They have inaugurated their own magazine and participated in numerous charitable events such as providing over 2000 meals each year for needy Kindergarteners. On the website is a list of officers of the Thai Chefs Association.
