Last year while in New York, I decided to go to a Media Bistro event as I’d been a member for a few years and thought, heck why not. It was one of the best networking events I’d ever attended and even though we were there for only an hour so, I met some great people who I do business with these days. One of the people I met that night was Chris O’Hara and recently he sent me his book on beer, The Great American Beer - 50 Brands That Shaped the 20th Century.
The Great American Beer chronicles the history of over 50 American Beers from Miller to Budweiser to Milwaukee’s Best. The book’s packed with full-colour photos of beer memorabilia with every beer brand having its own biography, complete with history, location and advertising jingles. Great American Beer is illustrated with product photos and original advertising, and packed with trivia like; when was the first beer brewed?
Apart from describing each beer in detail, Chris’s book discusses how beer has played an essential role in American Society since Bavarian yeast travelled across the Atlantic in the mid-1800s, to the major brands that dominate store shelves today.
Great American Beer by Chris O’Hara is the ultimate guide to American beer and essential to anyone that is interested in brewing or just drinking a cold one.
