King Island Dairy, well known for premium cream and gourmet cheese products have recently launched a range of yoghurts.Included in the range is an indulgent lemon myrtle yoghurt with maple which is naturally sweetened, rich and creamy. The lemon myrtle maple yoghurt with acidophilus is generally thick however it contains no preservatives or thickeners.Its great to see well known Australian companies beginning to incorporate native ingredients such as lemon myrtle into their product range.

As well as lemon myrtle maple yoghurt King Island Dairy has also released a traditional yoghurt as well as a natural honey and cinnamon. All flavours are available in both 300g and 2kg pack sizes and can be found in selected supermarkets and gourmet food stores.

Many chefs have difficulty using Lemon Myrtle and complain that it lacks flavour. This can be attributed to two main reasons, firstly because most chefs dont realise that Lemon Myrtle (like most native australian ingredients) should be used at the end of the cooking cycle unlike other herbs and spices. The second reason is that Lemon Myrtle generally has an unbalanced flavour and needs to be assisted. I prefer to use Lemon Myrtle Sprinkle which is blend of Lemon Myrtle and Lemon Aspen fruits.
