Tyler’s Ultimate is the accompanying cook book from the TV series on the Food Network of the same name. If you haven’t seen Tyler’s Ultimate the concept of the show is that in each episode Tyler cooks his ultimate version of a dish. The recipes both from the show and in the book are from Tyler’s own collection and are his most-trusted and best loved recipes.
The book has a real fun feel and he doesn’t make it hard either. The whole book can simply be summarised to the books tagline “Brilliant simple food to make anytime”.
The book is separated by chapters titled; Starters, Surf, Turf, Birds, Noodles, Garden and Desserts. There are certainly some classic recipes like minestrone; prawn bisque; French onion soup and chocolate mousse. As well as some American home favourites like baked beans, crab cakes, barbeque ribs; macaroni and cheese, spaghetti meat balls and berry trifle. All prepared and presented home-style like as in the average American diner.
However my favourite recipes were the salmon carpaccio with heart of palm salad; veal chops with roasted potatoes and blue cheese dressing; scallops saltimbocca and turkey breast rolled with leeks. Every recipe is accompanied with a brilliant photograph of the dish, offering even the most amateur cook, the ability to visual the final look of each dish.
Tyler’s Ultimate is a great cookbook to have for those Sunday nights where you feel like cooking something unpretentious and easy.
